CfA: Zurich Summer School for Women in Political Methodology

Határidő: 03/22/2019

We invite candidates to apply for the Zurich Summer School for Women in Political Methodology, to be held in Zurich, Switzerland from 30 June to 6 July 2019.

The application deadline is 22 March 2019 at midnight (CET).

Description

The Summer School aims to train researchers who identify as women in advanced social science methodology. Hosted by the Political Science Department of the University of Zurich, the 7-day program offers hands-on training on core computational methods, as well as opportunities for networking and collaboration. Every year, the Summer School offers a core program on computational methods that includes Functions in R, Scraping, Simulations, Advanced Graphics, and Text Analysis. In 2019, the Summer School will also offer a course on Social Network Analysis.

Having taken place for the first time in 2017, this Summer School is part of a larger long-term initiative to increase female participation in this research field where women are typically underrepresented. Following the Visions in Methodology example, we plan to establish a network of women methodologists working in Europe, specifically targeted at providing training, mentorship, and network opportunities as a means of strengthening their career prospects in academia and beyond.

Eligibility
The summer school is designed for PhD students, as well as post-docs and early-career researchers who identify as women, and who work in the field of Political Science or related disciplines. Participation in the summer school requires some prior statistical knowledge, as well as basic R skills.

Costs and Fellowships
The summer school offers 20 fellowships, of which 10 places are intended for external participants, and approximately 10 for participants from Zurich-based universities. The fellowship includes tuition, accommodation, travel costs, lunch and two dinners.

Accommodation will be either with Zurich-based participants or in shared rooms of two. Alternatively, you may also receive the equivalent value in stipend to arrange your accommodation privately. Flights/transportation to/from Zurich are to be arranged by participants themselves. Travel costs will be reimbursed up to 250 CHF (~217 Euro). If you are applying from a Zurich-based university, please note that you might be requested to host an external participant during the summer school as part of our effort to promote collaboration between participants.
